All White Theme – Challenge no 11

Liz and I decided that we want to participate in the All White Theme of the JungleFrog Cooking blog by our friend Simone. We decided to both bake a German Sandkuchen. Turns out the cake is not much more exciting than the name and definitely needs a good side dish like a plum compote for example. But the good thing is that it is very quick and easy to make and most ingredients I always have at home… Here is the recipe:

125 g soft butter
100 g sugar
1 tea spoon of vanilla sugar
a hint of salt
2 eggs
100 g flour
50 g starch
1/2 tsp backing powder
2 table spoons of cream
plum jam
powder sugar for the icing
Preheat oven to 180° celcius. Stir together the butter, sugar, vanilla sugar and salt until creamy. Stir in eggs. Combine flour, starch and backing powder before adding it to the dough along with the cream.
Butter the cake pan and fill it up with the dough. Bake until gold brown. After the cake has cooled down, cut it in half horizontally. Put the jam on the bottom part and close up with the top part after. Make an icing by mixing powder sugar with a few drops of water until you receive a thick, creamy icing that you pour over the cake.

  1. Yay! So happy you both joined in for this months challenge! Too bad the cake wasn’t too exciting as it does look good… Love the dripping icing on Julia’s cake… (I’m a big fan of drips..) Nice one ladies!
