Green Salsa

Every week I receive a „green box“ with herbs, vegetables, cheese, bread and eggs. Everything comes from local organic farms. I love how sometimes there are items in there that I have never heard of. This week’s surprise: Ground cherries. A ground cherry actually doesn’t look like a cherry at all, more like a baby tomato got mated with  a physalis fruit. I found out that they are great for green salsa. So I looked up what other people use to make green salsa and what my fridge had available. Here is my version of it:

1 little basket of ground cherries (about 2 cups with the husk on)

1 green pepper

1/2 of a small green jalapeno (seeded)

1 small onion

1 clove of garlic

1 lime

a few leaves of cilantro

salt and pepper

Put everything in a blender until you end up with a smooth dip. Eat it with chips or tacos or do what my husband did after he tasted it: Drink it like a fruit smoothie.
